Three Decades of Watch, Witnessed

In the News

Coverage from Tulsa newsrooms, regional press, and the Congressional Record — from the program’s founding year forward.

The Memorial Day vigil at Floral Haven has been carried by local newsrooms, regional press, and the Congressional Record for three decades. What follows is the press record we know of — from the program’s first re−enactment in 1995, when it shared front pages with the rescuers of the Oklahoma City bombing, to the cohort that stood the watch this past May.

Congressional Record

U.S. Congressional Recognition

Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition presented in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community. — Jim Bridenstine, U.S. Congressman, Oklahoma District 1 · Presented for the 22nd Annual Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Reenactment, May 28, 2016 (and again May 27, 2017)
The Old Guard

From the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment

The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment — the Old Guard — is the unit whose Sentinels keep the actual Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, day and night, without exception. Its former commander wrote:

Thank you for your leadership and service! You are great ambassadors of The Old Guard. — Colonel Johnny K. Davis, Former Commander, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) · April 15, 2016
